Giant Tortoises

The Galapagos is a wonderful place with loads of amazing wildlife. One of my favourite animal was the giant Galapagos tortoises. It is the world’s biggest tortoise species. A full-grown tortoise can be more than 5 feet long and weighs 500 pounds or more. The largest recorded Galapagos Tortoise was nearly 6 feet long and weighed 919 pounds. Giant tortoises are herbivores.

Blue Footed Boobies
I also liked the Blue Footed Boobies because they have blue feet. When they lay eggs they poo all around the nest so it makes it white but they leave a dark grey patch in the middle so the sun light warms the rock and the eggs. Blue Footed Boobies get their blue feet from their diet of mackerel which has a blue pigment.

Land Iguanas
The Galapagos Iguana is one of the three species of iguana endemic to The Galapagos Island. In each island there is a different type of Iguana with slightly different colours. Some Iguanas can swim but they don’t stay in the water for long as they get too cold. Sometimes you can see them swimming next to boats. They swim very elegantly.

I really liked how all of the animals were so friendly. Sadly we weren’t allowed to touch them. It was amazing to see animals everywhere and how unafraid they were of humans. The Galapagos is a wonderful place to go.
